Denis: Spider disposal incy bit incorrect

OLD friend Steve Sneyd, the award winning poet from Almondbury, took me to task for allowing my wife to wash a spider down the plughole in the bath.

This is not because I am afraid of spiders, you understand, just that I don’t like them anywhere near me, particularly when I’m naked and about to have a shower.

My wife Maria, who refuses to kill any living creature, thought it was more humane to give it a quick swill down the plughole, in the expectation that it would climb up the overflow pipe and be safe.

Steve says the spider was trapped in the bath because the sides were too smooth to get out.

“Just put a towel over the side of the bath, with one end touching the bottom, and the spider will use it like a ladder and climb out and leave you in peace and go about its business of keeping your house free of insect pests.”

Message understood, Steve. But I’ll still get Maria to do it.
