Denis: When nature calls

The other big polluters – China, Russia, and India among them – are developing their economies and unlikely to cut back because of something that may happen in 100 years time.

We in Britain, meanwhile, will continue to use energy-saving light bulbs, divide our rubbish between black and green bins and put our bottles in the bottle bank.

There is, of course, a body of opinion that doesn’t believe global warming is such a problem. They say the doomsday stuff is over-hyped.

But, just in case, maybe we would be better off building a high wall round the high bits of our nation, learning how to sail a boat and moving the capital from the soon to be submerged London to somewhere with better elevation.

Huddersfield sounds good.

READER Don Brown was interested in the piece I wrote about patron saints and, in particular, that mine own Saint Denis was the patron saint of headaches.
