Denis Kilcommons: If you have a yen to be a best man

IN Japan it doesn’t matter if you don’t have a best mate to be best man at your wedding.
You can hire one for the day. Or half a dozen guests to fill your side of the church if you are Billy Nomates.
During the recession, some bridegrooms have even hired a bloke who has pretended to be their boss to impress the in-laws, even though they have been made redundant.
“Fine young man. He should go far.”
And he will have to if he wants to keep up the illusion.
You can, in fact, rent someone for almost any occasion.
To deliver a funeral eulogy, mourners to cry copiously at the funeral, someone to pretend to be your husband or wife at a social event, or to pose with you for pictures that you can send home.
“Dear mum, How do you like the new boyfriend? Isn’t he a dish?”
