Denis: Dining out in Little Britain
Mar 2 2010 by Denis Kilcommons
MY wife is hooked on Come Dine With Me on television.
She loves this programme where four people go to each other’s homes in turn to be entertained and served a meal. Then they all vote for which was the best experience.
When it’s on, I slink away to hide in a darkened room to keep my sanity.
“Why do you like it?” I said.
“It’s like the Jeremy Kyle Show for snobs,” she retorted.
The cameras intrude everywhere into the homes of the four volunteers, and the three guests are able to poke around and make snide comments on style or decorations. It’s the ultimate programme for nosey-parkers.
Then I discovered that so many people thoroughly enjoy Come Dine With Me that other television stations are bringing out their own versions.
There is a lot of demand for so-called reality programmes that involve ordinary people making fools of themselves.
