Winning thoughts from Winner

'WE are what we eat’ is such an annoying cliche.

I think if it were just a cliche I might be able to live with it.

But it’s actually profoundly silly and wrong.

Chocolate might give you spots and too many carrots may make your skin go orange, but you don’t become chocolate and carrots.

The wonderful thing about a body is that, by and large, it absorbs what it needs and rejects what it doesn’t.

There’s good in chocolate and good in carrots and a judicious sampling of both will give your system an excellent chance of benefiting from them.

Stuff your face with either and you’ll be sorry you did.

I really don’t like the film director Michael Winner and I think that now he’s lost a couple of stone he looks and sounds even more spooky and fatuous.

But one thing he says strikes home and is so wonderfully, perfectly, marvellously true I can’t but praise him for his honesty.

If I were to write a diet book, he says, it would contain two words.

Eat Less.

Can’t you just hear your Nigellas and Jamies and Gordons running to hide in the broom cupboard?

on a plate But you wouldn’t want to live on chocolate, would you?
