Some things we just can’t believe

CAN anyone really believe the Cabinet ministers who deny any knowledge of the hundreds of thousands of pounds given to them by a north eastern businessman? I can’t. Particularly when I learn he is the Labour party’s second largest donor and he has been ever-present at their gatherings. As this embarrassment comes on the back of the “Cash for honours” disgrace something must be done. The whole system is rotten and open to abuse.

I support those who propose an upper limit for donations to political parties and a much more open system in which it should operate. If we are to regain any confidence in those we elect such a change cannot come soon enough.
