Don’t talk daft

WE DO talk twaddle sometimes.

I include myself in the criticism because everyone involved in the media has blurted out things they wished they’d never said.

So what am I on about now? I’ll tell you.

The ludicrous assertion that one erroneous penalty decision against Manchester United may have cost them the Premier League title.

Don’t for a minute think that United won’t get a dubious penalty given to them at some stage of the season – thank goodness Rio Ferdinand had the goodness and decency to admit after the spot kick that enabled Newcastle to win a point at Old Trafford that these things even themselves out.

So they do. Don’t forget either that there are 37 other matches in which crucial decisions will be made.

Of course some results are more significant than others, but every match has the same value and, as Manchester City and Arsenal also drew over the weekend, United didn’t exactly lose any ground because of referee Mike Jones’s charity.

The newspapers that suggested one decision could win and lose a title are no doubt the same ones that tell us clubs can be relegated by Christmas.

No they can’t.

There will still be 66 points to play for and that’s enough for anyone to guarantee staying up.
