HE claimed he heard screaming voices, urging him to kill his children.

Christopher Hawkins, of Slaithwaite, has gone on trial denying the murder of his four-year-old son Ryan and attempted murder of 14-year-old daughter Donna.

A court heard how he stabbed the youngsters to get back at his wife for having an affair.

Ryan – who had celebrated his fourth birthday only days before the attack last September – was stabbed at least nine times.

Donna survived – despite having 14 separate stab wounds.

Hawkins, 47, of Royd Street, was arrested shortly after the attack when he ordered a drink in a Slaithwaite pub and confessed.

The murder trial at Leeds Crown Court, expected to last up to 10 days, heard that Hawkins was a violent, heavy drinker.
