Wilf Lunn: thoughts on fly-tipping, Wilfred Beehive and strangler figs

THERE’S a sign at Highburton that says ‘No Tipping’.

I thought that’s a great spot to get out of a taxi. You could hand the driver the fare and point to the sign.

There used to be ‘No Tipping’ signs on the trees in Dene Park, but they vanished.

I complained to Kirklees that people were fly-tipping. Their answer was that because there weren’t any signs prohibiting tipping they could do nothing about it.

It doesn’t say ‘No Burglars’ on houses, but we know it’s not right.

I’VE had an e.mail from Wilfred Beehive coaches explaining the name.

A lady in Australia is called Wilfreda. When she was born, her father was told he had a son so he went out celebrating the birth of Wilf Junior.
