Wilf Lunn: Why we’re short of water, and the lamp that gave him tinnitis

For a while, when I was in bed I could hear a distinct hum. It was so clear I was convinced it was a real sound coming from who knows where.

I got very annoyed because Liz said she couldn’t hear it. I thought I’d mention it to the doc that I was suffering from a new kind of nocturnal tinnitus.

The further I moved away from Liz the clearer it got. If I went to the loo it vanished completely.

This struck me as odd. it must be something in the bedroom.

I found it was coming from the transformer on my Ikea bedside lamp.

It did it even when it was turned off. I solved the problem by putting the lamp at Liz’s side of the bed. Amazingly, she could now hear it and I couldn’t.

We gave it away.
