Wilf Lunn: Pretty girls aplenty
Sep 19 2009 by John Avison, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
IMMIGRATION is the lowest it’s been for years but even so the UK population is now more than 61 million.
The increase is due to 791,000 new babies being born last year. The majority of these are girls and they are apparently becoming more beautiful as time goes by.
Our latest great grandchild Molly is a glorious redhead. They say this is because attractive women have more children.
Meanwhile unattractive men have fewer children. I wonder how they figured that out.
The girls grow to have the good looks of their mothers and so the beauty goes on. I think this is only partially true. Cosmetics and fashion must play a part; you only have to walk down Cross Church Street on Saturday night to see the effort girls go to look good.
The chaps make very little effort. I think the lads instinctively know there are fewer guys to go round so they don’t bother. This lack of men was plain to see at Barry Manilow’s concert in Hyde Park.
Hundreds of screaming women turned up for that. Was it his good looks or the lovely black jacket with silver embroidered sleeves he was wearing?
No, it must be the world shortage of men. I rest my case.
One consolation about this increased population is we know from the constant settee adverts on the TV at least there will be somewhere for everyone to sit.
PS: Talking of lovely ladies, I see the model Claudia Schiffer has taken to removing her clothes for a television advert. Strange.
Did I foresee this years ago when I wrote of a cartoon model called Claudia Shiftless? She was accompanied by a character called Gloria Vestandpants. I await developments on the singer Gloria Estafan front.
