Trouble at Sugden’s Mill

ALL those who live in Brighouse surely want to see some action on the disused Sugden’s Mill site in the centre of the town.

Most residents must be heartily sick of the bickering which has gone on and on for years over the future of this important land.

And it seems set to continue, with allegations that Calderdale Council officials attempting to gain a compulsory purchase order lied at an inquiry.

One central question remains unanswered.

If the council and its partners had such grandiose development ideas why did they not take the simple step of buying the site instead of allowing a local businessman to nip in first?

It does seem a startling omission for which there has been no satisfactory explanation.

Meanwhile, Brighouse can only wait and hold its breath for action on the site.

But it might be a long time coming, judging by the recent catalogue of events.
