CONGRATULATIONS to enterprising children who have raised money for improvements at Meltham Church of England School.
Their head teacher gave them £1 each, together with a challenge to make the money grow.
And they did just that, bringing back around £2,500 through a series of ventures which included requests to celebrities for items to sell at auction.
The kids did well to rise to a challenge inspired by the leaking roof at their school, but many will wonder how it got to this situation.
Headmistress Maggie McLean had reported that the roof needed attention – then was forced to wait and wait...
Once upon a time, former Prime Minister Tony Blair declared that his mantra was education, education, education.
It cannot be right in this day and age that children should have to undertake schooling in a building in such poor condition that buckets have to be used to catch the rain coming through the roof.
