THE battle of Stamford Bridge is to be re-fought.
Huddersfield Town go to Chelsea in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
It’s just two years since the Terriers visited the capital for a cup match against the Premiership side, a late winner putting the home team through 2-1.
So yesterday’s draw produced more of a sense of deja vu rather than one of excitement at a glamour tie against a top club. There was a distinct feeling that it was the end of the road.
But football is about optimism. Just look at the never-say-die attitude of Havant and Waterlooville, who did themselves proud at Liverpool.
Fans enjoyed a great day out at Chelsea in 2006 and saw a valiant Town hold their own until the cruel winning goal eight minutes from time.
Bookies are putting Chelsea as favourites to win the cup this year following the draw, at the same time giving Town odds of 1000/1.
But stranger things have happened and they could be proved wrong.
Just remember that old saying: It’s not over until it’s over.
