THE pavilion at Fartown sports ground is indeed a historic local landmark, as an estate agent says in today’s Examiner.

Once upon a time it was a distinctive backdrop when professional rugby league flourished there and the site hosted games in which cricket legends thrilled big crowds.

Sadly, the building is a shadow of its former self.

But it retains a special place in the hearts of sports fans.

So it is good news today that estate agents are looking to sell to someone who can breathe new life into the property, perhaps as a restaurant.

Demolition must never be allowed. The pavilion is too special to suffer that ignominious fate.
