Give due credit!

ACROSS Huddersfield, there are countless examples of buildings which capture the spirit of enterprise shown by our forebears.
The magnificence of the buildings around St George’s Square display the undoubted vigour of the past and a desire to be noticed.
Countless mills show how we bustled in the days when the textile industry was just about the biggest thing going.
Today our forward thinking continues – as demonstrated by the university’s vast expansion and the success of the Media Centre, to give just two examples.
The people behind these schemes deserve some recognition for their efforts to create a flourishing modern, structured and imaginative economy for our town.
And that’s just what a new competition aims to do.
The contest to find the most enterprising place in the region is being run by Yorkshire Forward, with the winner going through to a national final.
If Huddersfield does not gain at least some success, it would be a travesty.
Only with a vibrant and self-sustaining regional economy can Huddersfield flourish in the modern era.
Entrepreneurial spirit is vital in building a more prosperous future as traditional industry continues to decline.
