Fun of the fair

IT’S been an up-and-down ride for Huddersfield’s Easter fair over the past decade or so.

Shunted from one place to another, it faces a new difficulty this year – taking place on two separate sites adjoining the town’s railway station.

The move from St Andrew’s Road is unavoidable following difficulties with the ground.

But the miracle is that the fair is still with us, in this age of computer games and other sedentary activities.

Travelling showpeople have to contend with changes in technology and the threat of competition from other aspects of the leisure industry, yet still they keep going.

It’s a fine tradition which deserves support. Not for sentiment’s sake – but because it’s huge fun.
