Driving the workers

IT is stating the obvious to say that speeding on the roads is dangerous.

However, as the Examiner reports today, the problem is all too common among drivers who are at work.

Not only do they admit to going too fast, but they also have a strong tendency to tailgate – that awful experience where someone drives up almost to your boot.

Bad driving? Yes. But also a reflection of the unrealistic timetables set for workers by their employers.

The result is a nation of lorry and van drivers who have to drive in a lethal way in order to meet their targets.

Their aggressive behaviour behind the wheel deserves condemnation, but we should also be piling the pressure on their bosses to be sensible in what they expect of their workforce.
