THE first significant salvoes have been fired in the build-up to May’s local council elections with the publication of manifestos by the Tories and Liberal Democrats.
Labour and the Greens will follow soon with their ideas as the campaign gets under way in earnest.
It’s not clear at this stage what the main issues will be – although it’s a fair bet that bin collections and post office closures will feature prominently.
This newspaper will not tell you which party to vote for. Between now and election day, you will read the arguments for all of them and can make your own informed decision.
Our only plea to you is to make sure you use your vote. It matters.
Everyone should vote at elections, because they provide our one opportunity to significantly influence those who govern us, at local or national level.
