Up the pole

KIRKLEES Council is to be among the first in the country to fit tiny video cameras into the poles used by lollipop men and women.

The move comes after repeated incidents involving aggressive drivers outside schools.

Few would disagree with the sentiment that it’s unbelievable we’re having to take this costly action to protect workers from intimidation and injury.

Typical selfish behaviour involves people driving around or close to the patrols when they are in the middle of the road, swearing and using threatening language and revving engines or sounding horns.

It’s deeply saddening that there are drivers not prepared to wait 30 seconds while children are crossing.

They should have the book thrown at them when they are caught.
