Smoking ban

REALISTICALLY, it might be argued that it won’t do Elizabeth Hobbs any harm to continue smoking at the age of 89.

Her own daughter has labelled it as “one last pleasure”.

You might think there is a clear cut argument in favour of her being allowed to puff away in her own room.

But – and we hesitate to say it – Elizabeth has reached the age where she might well be a fire hazard through carelessness.

Far better that there should be a dedicated smoking room, where like-minded people can gather and have an eye kept on them.
