Helping the desperate

NOBODY wants to live or work in an area where sex is openly sold on the streets and it isn’t hard to see why.

Most people will have sympathy with firms in Huddersfield which claim they are being blighted because of vice girls.

It cannot be right that customers visiting these businesses are being propositioned by prostitutes.

But it has to be recognised that moving the women will simply shift the problem on to pastures new.

The harsh reality is that it is not for nothing that prostitution is known as the world’s oldest profession – a ready supply of desperate women turn to it for a number of reasons, whether it is because of an addiction, homelessness or because they are being bullied by someone else.

No matter how distasteful you may find their situation, everyone deserves the chance to turn their life around.

That is why the work of groups who want to support those who want help should be applauded and backed.
