PROTECTING the environment seems to be at the top of the agenda these days.

But people who love and cherish Beaumont Park here in Huddersfield were at it a long time before many others.

They took hold of the park when it was becoming an overgrown jungle, its magnificent features a shadow of their former selves.

Nowadays the park has been utterly transformed.

It was Beaumont Park gala day yesterday, an event which brought the alterations to a wider audience.

Henry F Beaumont, who gifted the land to the town in 1879, would have been very impressed.
