Crossing dangers
Nov 26 2008 by Andrew Baldwin, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
THE headline is a painful reminder of the dangers faced every day by school crossing patrol staff.
We entrust our children’s safety to them as the youngsters make their way to and from the classroom.
Yet what about their own safety as they step into the road with the familiar lollipop warning sign?
Muhammad Ismail is still in hospital with multiple fractures three weeks after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Huddersfield, as we report today.
The resilient grandfather vows he will be back – and good for him.
It is hard to find the words to express the callousness of the driver who knocked him down as he was going about his job.
His action in driving on was inexcusable cowardice.
It is to be hoped that the police can track him down quickly, and bring him to justice. He is a menace to all road users, and his wicked disregard for the consequences of his actions deserve severe punishment.
If anyone has any information that can identify this driver, they should alert the police immediately. Meanwhile, all our thoughts and prayers are with the courageous victim as he fights to recover from his injuries.
