OBJECTIONS have been raised against plans for a new mobile phone mast at Marsden British Legion Club.

Residents are urging Kirklees planners to refuse permission for the O2 mast saying it is too close to homes and children’s play areas.

Their concerns are no doubt valid. Nobody wants an ugly metal pole near their house – and some people feel there are health risks.

On the other hand, most of us have mobile phones. We all complain when there is no signal – but the only way to solve that is to put up masts.

The phone companies are not ‘evil’ – they are just trying to meet their customer’s needs.

So, if we really don’t want to see masts springing up everywhere, then perhaps we need to rethink the ‘needs’ of our modern lifestyles.
