Leader: New Huddersfield Sports Centre

THE detailed plans for the proposed new sports centre seem to have been greeted with early enthusiasm.
It’s hard for anyone to argue that Huddersfield is not long overdue for a state-of-the-art centre.
The current sports centre is long past its sell by date – and many have always wondered why it was built as a brick box with no windows.
The new sports centre will no doubt become a major draw to the town – after all, how many people have made the journey to Barnsley just for its Metrodome.
But there are still many unanswered questions about the scheme.
It will swallow up a huge part of Spring Grove car park so where will all the leisure fans park and how expensive will that be?
And is Springwood really the right location for it?
