Leader: Listen to the people
Mar 26 2010 Huddersfield Daily Examiner
IT’S certainly hardly a surprise that Kirklees councillors have voted to set up a new school in Huddersfield.
The school will be on the All Saints site and will signal the end of Fartown High School, but pupils going to All Saints Catholic College and the new school will undoubtedly benefit greatly.
Last night’s vote heralds the start of a consultation process and let’s hope it is clear and transparent with councillors and officials showing they are listening to what the people say and reflecting that in the decision.
With so many other consultations on important issues, including education, the complaint from many afterwards is that the decision had been made even before the consultation began.
Rightly or not, that is the perception they have been left with after the final decision was made.
Concerns have been raised over the size of the new school and if it should be an academy.
Let’s hope the consultation will give parents of children due to attend either the new school or the refurbished All Saints a real say on how the school should be set up and run.
