WE have seen the devastation fire can bring to the moors around Huddersfield only too graphically in recent weeks.
The moors are now tinder dry and at high risk of fires breaking out at any time.
Although they remain open to the public, they are highly vulnerable and once a blaze breaks out it can spread terrifyingly quickly.
It’s hard to believe that people would even think to have a barbecue up there now.
Surely commonsense dictates that people should not use anything on the moors that can spark a fire – and that includes cigarettes and glass bottles.
But has commonsense simply gone out of the window these days?
