Is the playing field dog ban needed?

MANY may think it is a little extreme, but a council is looking to ban dogs from playing fields.

Radical controls are being considered to keep dogs away from areas where children play out and adults take part in sports activities.

The proposals, being considered by Calderdale Council, might lead to a dog ban on 120 sports pitches and playing fields.

It will restrict the number of places people can take their dogs for a walk.

At the moment it’s only a suggestion and the wider public are able to have their say on the plans.

But if people, in particular dog owners, don’t like it they can ensure they clean up after their dog in public.

All too often it’s left for others to pick up the mess left behind by irresponsible dog owners. They are very much the minority, but something needs to be done to stop this problem escalating, as it has done in recent years.
