IT is difficult to imagine how Beverley Hufton must have felt when GPs failed to spot cancer.
The Milnsbridge mother-of-two and popular landlady had complained of a series of ailments for around nine months until she was eventually diagnosed with cancer.
But tragically it came just 10 days before her sad death – treatment could not have saved her as the cancer was too advanced.
Her family are, rightly, upset about the circumstances and are taking legal action, saying they’ve lost trust in the NHS.
It is such a shame that Beverley’s diagnosis was, for whatever reason, missed for so long.
If mistakes are found to have been made, then lessons must be learnt.
But during this difficult time her family are also thinking of others and her brother, Collin Hufton, is hoping to help people living with cancer.
A steward of Bradley and Colnebridge Working Men’s Club, he’s hosting a fundraiser in his sister’s memory to raise funds for Kirkwood Hospice, which treats people with terminal and life-limiting illnesses.
Perhaps in highlighting Beverley’s tragic experience they might just encourage others like her to be even more persistent if they’re worried, and hopefully get the treatment Beverley didn’t receive.
