THE long running saga surrounding supermarket provision in the Holme Valley has taken another turn.
Architects are holding information sessions to give residents a look at proposals for a new supermarket in the valley. But in Honley and not in Holmfirth.
Felix Eaton, the man who owns half the Woodhead Road site being proposed for redevelopment in Honley, says that if a supermarket is needed then why not put it where it will have less effect on existing village traders and where it can benefit local businesses which need to relocate.
And there is the key. If the case has indeed been proved that the area needs another supermarket then every option has to be considered.
One which is locally driven in, seeks to offer new options for existing businesses while preserving those currently trading in the valley will be welcomed in some quarters.
Perhaps now is the time to take a fresh look at planning proposals to meet retail needs and development across the whole valley in the best interests of all.
