IT has been a sorry old summer on the weather front.
Warnings of torrential rain, localised flooding and alerts from the Met Office have replaced the usual seasonal talk of barbecues, sunbathing and pollen counts.
So how refreshing it was to enjoy a little bit of real summer at the weekend, despite the latest forecast.
Many thousands flocked to Emley Moor to enjoy the Emley Show on a site bathed in warm sunshine for hour after hour.
And full credit, too, to the army of volunteers who had worked tirelessly for weeks and months before the event, uncertain if it would be another showpiece to fall victim to the bad weather of 2012.
Their hard work was rewarded with a record-breaking show and the sight of hundreds of families enjoying traditional countryside and village show activities.
Such a huge event takes an awful lot of organising and the people behind it are intent solely on creating a memorable day for the whole community. They deserve our thanks.
