I AM glad to see that Clr Robert Light is so excited at the prospect of the council getting another award. The council is doing much better, it would appear, since it dropped the word “metropolitan” from its title. Read

KIRKLEES taxpayers are going to fund another expensive re-vamp of St George’s Square and Harold Wilson will stay. (Examiner Dec 6). You tell us Lady Mary, the Prime Minister and Barry Sheerman want him to remain in place. Nothing is mentioned about the opinions of the local populace. May I offer a view? Read

A RECENT report stated that 22,300 British pensioners died of the cold and cold related illnesses last winter and nearly 150,000 have died in the last 6 years. Can this be classed as a national disaster or not? One local MP stated earlier this year that it was routine for older people to die of the cold 10 years ago, so after 10 years of New Labour has nothing changed for Britain’s pensioners? A FEW years ago I bought a box of books at Colne Valley Auctions in Slaithwaite. Included was a book entitled “Lesser Fleas”. Inside the book I found cuttings from an Examiner in 1953. They give information about the author G R H Ellis, who lived and worked in the Colne Valley. I wonder what became of him, and did he write more books? Read

I AM appealing to the better nature of the person who retrieved the new dark blue winter coat from the afternoon Honley-to-Meltham school bus on Friday, November 23. Please would you hand it in to the First Bus lost property office on McCauley Street or give it to the school bus driver as my child is now getting cold and wet. Read
