The search for city status
Mar 7 2008 by Andrew Flynn, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
I READ with interest (Financial Times, March 1 2008) that the council hopes to achieve city status for Huddersfield by 2012. All the more important, then, I would have thought, that projects such as the proposed redevelopment of Castle Hill – potentially the new city’s most prominent local feature – should reflect this new-found status.
I would suggest that a wine bar or similar hardly does the job. The council should resist such tawdry schemes and tender for something which better mirrors its own vision for the future and which does justice to the town’s increasing international as well as national reputation.
