Referendum hopes

CONGRATULATIONS to Neil O’Brien, the Huddersfield-born man behind the I Want A Referendum campaign. I sincerely hope his efforts to get a referendum are successful (Examiner, February 27).

I believe the bureaucratic EU is a waste of time and money. Our EU membership fee could be much better spent on causes in our own society.

Dictated to by their parties

WHY, when we vote for out MPs to represent us in Parliament, that, once there, they vote as their party dictates and not always as their constituents want?

In serous issues such as the Iraq war and the recent murmurings about bringing back the death penalty for murder why should one person decide for all of us what he/her or his/her party should decide?

Why cannot we have a local vote and whatever this outcome our representative will vote that way? That seems more like democracy to me.
