What about Wallace?
Mar 8 2008 by Our Correspondent, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
AS a musician and teacher in Huddersfield I am often left wondering why it is that one of the town’s most famous musicians is often left disregarded, without so much as a memorial.
Wallace Hartley, bandmaster on the Titanic and member of the Huddersfield Philharmonic Society, surely merits even a simple blue plaque on the wall of his former home on Somerset Road, Almondbury?
As a town we are proud of our long tradition of music making, but few seem aware of this particular member of Huddersfield's musical family.
