    | Reader Letters

VERITY Baker (Letters March 8) may be unaware that there already is a plaque on the house in West Park Street, Dewsbury, where Wallace Hartley, bandmaster on the Titanic, lived as an adult. Read

    | Reader Letters

WHAT a fool I have been. Instead of burning the midnight oil studying for many years, I should have joined Kirklees Council on a certain part-time basis. Read

IN reply to Mr T Brook of Cowlersley (Examiner, March 13). He says that if ever smoking catches up with him he will not want sympathy. Perhaps he is that kind of guy who thinks he is indestructible. Read

  • No voting for the workers

    | Reader Letters

SO Kagey (Mailbag March 18) thinks we should vote for Council employees? I have never heard a sillier idea! As it is, less than half our population turns out to vote, so holding more elections isn’t likely to be popular. And what would we do when no-one voted for the Council workers ... so there was no-one to do the work? Think about it: no-one voted in to empty the bins, and no spokesperson to explain why the rubbish was piling up in the streets, either! Read

  • Don’t ban all drinkers from park

    | Reader Letters

REGARDING the proposed alcohol ban in Greenhead Park, if the drinkers that are blighting the local residents’ lives are, as quoted, "under age", then they are already breaking the law. Read

  • Another blast for BT

    | Reader Letters

YES, I’m another victim of BT’s billing, being penalised by being charged £4.50 on top of my bill. All because I don’t pay by direct debit. Read

I HAD occasion to be taken to the A&E Department on March 6, and I cannot praise the staff high enough for their efficiency, courtesy and friendliness. From the reception staff, nurses, doctors the rest of the staff and the consultant Mr Mandour. Thank you for HRI. Read
