No voting for the workers

SO Kagey (Mailbag March 18) thinks we should vote for Council employees? I have never heard a sillier idea! As it is, less than half our population turns out to vote, so holding more elections isn’t likely to be popular. And what would we do when no-one voted for the Council workers ... so there was no-one to do the work? Think about it: no-one voted in to empty the bins, and no spokesperson to explain why the rubbish was piling up in the streets, either!
