  • Bureaucratic balloting

    | Reader Letters

I AM pleased that FW of Marsden (Mailbag, March 19) read and digested my letter on voting. Pity he/she didn’t understand it. At no time did I advocate that council workers be voted for. What I did write was that “unelected bureaucrats” be voted for. I don’t think that refuse collectors come into that category, although you may think so ... But, just for your information, a bureaucrat is (according to the Oxford English Dictionary) “a government official perceived as being overly concerned with procedural correctness”. I hope this helps you in the future. Read

  • Yet more ‘flat pack’ buildings

    | Reader Letters

IN response to the article ‘Taking a dim view of Waterfront Quarter’ (Examiner March 17) I find it very difficult to understand why the Planning Committee have approved the proposed Huddersfield Technical College development. Read

  • Strange bedfellows!

    | Reader Letters

IAN BROOKE is quite right (Mailbag March 18). Who would have thought it; a Conservative administration wanting to make links with a Communist regime. I can just see the image of Dodds, Light and Co waving Mao’s Little Red Book in the council chamber. Read

  • It’s just so tyresome

    | Reader Letters

THIS letter is aimed at the person(s) who keep dumping tractor tyres in the river near Hey Green at Marsden. It obviously takes a lot of effort to do this. Please be responsible and dispose of them in the correct way. Read

  • Surprised at how this cash news was announced to the public!

    | Reader Letters

FOLLOWING Mr Cook’s letter (March 18) I welcome unreservedly the news that (I quote) “£500,000 (is) to be committed to the Valleys Community Transport Scheme” (operated by the Denby Dale Centre) and that “this proposal is now part of Kirklees Council’s spending for the next three years”. Read

  • Nursery facts and figures

    | Reader Letters

I AM confused and somewhat perturbed by the comments made by Purnima Tanuku of the National Day Nurseries Association (Mailbag, March 20). Read

  • Upset at the Matthews family

    | Reader Letters

I WOULD like to say I am so glad that Shannon Matthews was found and throughout the time she was missing I was deeply sorry for the family. Read

  • MP and the post office vote

    | Reader Letters

“MP to back delay on post office closures” (Examiner Monday, March 19). You reported that Kali Mountford had “vowed” to support the suspension of post office closures. We could reasonably have expected her to vote with the Opposition in last Monday’s vote, as a number of her honourable colleagues did. Did she? Read

  • Attractions of local history

    | Reader Letters

READERS attracted to the forthcoming seminar on The Buildings of Huddersfield (“Historic look at buildings to be admired”, Examiner, March 20) may also like to know more about Huddersfield Local History Society, one of the organisations - along with the Civic Society – backing the university’s event on April 26.
