Bureaucratic balloting

I AM pleased that FW of Marsden (Mailbag, March 19) read and digested my letter on voting. Pity he/she didn’t understand it. At no time did I advocate that council workers be voted for. What I did write was that “unelected bureaucrats” be voted for. I don’t think that refuse collectors come into that category, although you may think so ... But, just for your information, a bureaucrat is (according to the Oxford English Dictionary) “a government official perceived as being overly concerned with procedural correctness”. I hope this helps you in the future.
