I READ with interest the letter from Alice of Paddock and her home care situation. Alice is more than lucky to receive such a good quality home care package, plus receiving the excellent support of her daughters, who, it seems, are able to carry out many of the tasks needed both for herself and for her home. YOU have more chance of catching a disease off the budgie, parrot, cat, dog or other household pets than you have of catching something from the pigeons. Pigeons saved lives in the last war – they are quite intelligent birds. You have it on you conscience Clr Stout, I wouldn’t want it on mine. Pigeons do not spread disease. Read

THE government’s announcement that energy companies will spend £150m a year by 2011 taking up to 100,000 homes out of fuel poverty (April 11) will offer scant comfort to the other 4.4m households across Britain who cannot afford to heat their homes and will see no benefit from this money. Read
