I WOULD like to thank the 1,942 people who re-elected me to represent the Newsome Ward last Thursday. I would also like to thank all those people who delivered leaflets, displayed posters and canvassed for us, it is much appreciated. The Green Party will punch above its weight in the Council Chamber and will continue to achieve real progress for the people of Kirklees....

I REFER to the recent Olympic torch ceremony in our capital city. Why was the torch-surrounded by Chinese personnel, aren’t our people capable enough? And should representatives of such a brutal regime have been in position to potentially manhandle British citizens given their treatment of the unfortunate people of Tibet?...

IT really makes me sigh with incredulity to hear that the prescription charge in Scotland has now been reduced to £5 with the prospect of everybody there having them for free by 2011, regardless of working or not. We know that NHS prescriptions are free for the Welsh, and have been for a year....
