Scotch mist of independence

IT appears that some so-called MPs in Scotland are having fun and games, or, more likely, just playing silly beggars, planning a referendum on whether to declare Scottish independence.

Scotland is an area of Great Britain in the United Kingdom and is ultimately ruled by the British Government and it is we who will decide the issue of independence.

Surely they cannot simply declare independence; that would be treason and a reason for war to ensue as in centuries of yore.

However, let’s suppose they do declare independence and we all roll over and agree to it, what then would transpire?

The questions are myriad!

Will they issue their own passports, to be declared aliens by all other sovereign and independent states, have customs posts at all border crossings, would all Scottish MPs resign from Westminster and go to be SMPs under King Alex of Salmond (something fishy there!) all paid for out of their own pockets; not ours as is now the case.

North Sea oil is not theirs nor is it won in Scottish waters but they may nationalise the section of pipeline which brings it to Scottish soil, then charge a big tax for using the pipe.

If so, we shall lay another pipeline direct to England, we do have the technology, and then it’s up yours King Alex.

It is all too preposterous for words, so let sanity prevail and spend my taxes on something sensible; if that is possible!

WHAT a lovely surprise when I saw, in Memory Lane in the Examiner, Thursday May 8, a photograph of Miss Melissa Lumb in 1954 going on a trip to America. Miss Lumb was an old friend of my grandmother (they were bridesmaids) and I made an immediate phone call to my mum to tell her and we are sending the article to her twin sister in Nottingham. Many thanks. Read
