It’s time for real policies and not more political punch-ups

THE Prime Minister has launched another commission into the problem with social care for the elderly in England.

Most people are aware that in England the elderly have to use their savings and sell their houses for social care.

In Scotland, on the other hand, social care is free. Not surprisingly this has caused resentment in England. Consequently getting the Prime Minister to address the issue made me hopeful that he was at last beginning to address pensioner concerns and that we would once again be on the political agenda.

My hopes were in vain! Sadly the topic was soon off the agenda and replaced by personal attacks on the PM by Prezza and Cherie – with books to sell – and Frank Field et al with personal scores to settle. When are we going to see a return to policies that help people instead of all this political back-stabbing and sniping. Eleven years of the Blair/Brown punch-ups are enough for anyone!
