Impressive and thought-provoking
IT is clear that Adam the Art Critic (Mailbag May 20) has an equally surplus amount of time on his hands if all he can do is criticise the efforts of people who are actually doing something.
I went to the show and found the venue itself to be excellent and was very impressed with the art on show, much more thought-provoking than the usual dross offered in the district.
I spoke to the artists about their project and was very impressed by their warmth and humility. I thought them very brave to spend their own money and time showing new work to a generally uninterested Huddersfield public. It would be wonderful if there was more of this.
I tend to see the graduate shows and always find them somewhat needy and rather dull. This field of cups was funny and touching and highlighted, I thought, the terrible waste that humankind produces.
These cups have been saved from the landfill and will be there to be cherished for many people for years to come. I wish the artists every success and I do think that the Tate is a poorer place for lacking some gritty northern humour.
