MANY thanks for including my request for information regarding my mother and any former school pals. Following the letter (Mailbag May 19), a couple of people have got in touch who knew my mum from all those years back on Town Avenue. Also, my old school friend Ian got in touch and he called over today with his wife Helen. It was very nice to see them again....

I’M a person to whom principle means a lot, so I applaud Clr Calvert and her consort for sticking to their principles when it came to handing over the mayoral chains of office....

I’M doing my bit, composting, re-using carrier bags, recycling the right items in the right bins, not over-filling either my green or grey bin and taking other items to the recycling facility at Emerald Street....

REFERENCE the photo of Mr Oakley, (All Our Yesterdays May 27): the gentleman holding the “shotgun” seems, in fact, to be holding a Short Magazine Lee-Enfield, (SMLE) .303 calibre, standard British Forces issue from 1907....

WHAT is our great country coming to? I was once very proud to be a citizen of the UK but how can it be right when, as reported in the national press, a chap cannot have the flag of St George displayed from his car without being accused of racism?...
