Bus fare rises

ALAN PILBEAM (local MD of First) talks a load of poppycock when he says (Examiner July 15) “we have reluctantly decided to increase some of our fares.”

Whilst we all know of rising fuel costs and the other “increases” he says First has incurred, at the end of the day he still has to make profits for the company shareholders! Would I be wrong in thinking that this has been reflected in the 8% rise? No, of course not, silly me, nothing to do with profits for shareholders!

I’d like to challenge Alan Pilbeam to use the 341 Stocksmoor bus route (which is mainly run on a two hour schedule) for one week with me (to and from work) on the old, dirty, smelly double decker buses that First insist on using on this route.

Rubbish buses and a rubbish service along with an 8% rise on fares – a bargain! I bet you don’t rely on First buses to get to and from work Mr Pilbeam. No I don’t blame you, wish I didn’t have to either!!
