Tribute to our youth
Jul 16 2008 by Sue Bardon, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
ON July 4, the Leeds Diocesan Pilgrimage returned from Lourdes. Once again, the youth from All Saints Catholic High School were part of this pilgrimage.
They travelled to Lourdes at their own expense! Whilst there, every day they were up and out very early each morning, collecting the pilgrims who were in wheelchairs, from the hotels. They pushed and pulled the pilgrims to all the numerous services, attending to their every need. This year is the 150th Anniversary Jubilee Year in Lourdes of our Lady’s apparitions to St Bernadette and therefore the curriculum was very demanding, so the youth were constantly busy.
Nevertheless, they were always in good humour. Happy, smiling, caring and encouraging to our sick pilgrims. Their own joy at being in Lourdes was inspiring and it was again a privilege to be with them, to witness their love and care for our sick.
They are all a credit to their parents, their head master, Mr Liam Harron; to their organiser Mrs Lorraine Gearney, a credit to All Saints Catholic High School and our Catholic community.
The town of Huddersfield should be very proud and applaud these youth. If all young people in Britain were like them our country would be “Great” again.

Support for strikers
YESTERDAY and today many workers in Kirklees are coming out on strike. I am writing in support of them as in the past I have worked in a school.
Home carers who support my mum and many other people are getting a raw deal. No doubt it will be said that they are not very caring by going on strike, but I think Kirklees are the ones who are not caring. Kirklees have owed them money for a long time, about time they paid up.
The carers are on just above the minimum wage, also the price of petrol does not help as I am sure some will be using their own money. They also do not get anything for wear and tear on their cars.
Perhaps some of the councillors would like to cover the two days, what a laugh, they would find an excuse. Come on Kirklees, we keep hearing about all these awards you keep winning for this and that, let us see how caring you are.
