Parents’ pride

WE would like to pass our thanks onto the writer of the letter “Teenagers’ concern” (Mailbag July 16) regarding a broken down car in Lindley and how someone had called the police because of youths surrounding the car.

As the parents of one of the teenagers involved I thank you. After the incident our daughter was telling us how much she disliked being “tagged” as a trouble maker. She continued to rant at us informing us how teenagers who were genuinely concerned were respectable people who did not deserve to be treated in this way. We tried to sympathise but at the same time trying to explain why people had jumped to the wrong conclusion.

When we saw the letter and showed it to our daughter it went a way towards appeasing her so as her proud parents we thank the writer very much.

I never thought for one moment that my daughter would be treated in this way – she dresses well, respects people and is genuinely a nice person. It just goes to prove that some people do not see beyond age – or the fact that they may be just with friends and not a “gang”.

Recently she and her friends had occasion to serve tea and biscuits to some elderly people – she found them rude and disrespectful of the help the teenagers were tryng to give them. I had to tell her not to class every older person in the same category too.

We’re proud parents of our daughter and also proud of her friends and give thank you to Salendine Nook school also.
