Reassuring railings

GREENHEAD Park is undergoing restoration work courtesy of the Heritage Lottery Fund to the tune of £5.4m who, not surprisingly, want some reassurance about their funds so a secure park comes into the equation.

The railings are not a new concept. The Heritage will tell you the original railings were removed during the Second World War so the restoration project will restore the park to its former glory.

The railings and gates will reassure users that the park will be safe and secure at dusk and welcoming to all in daylight who will not encounter the remnants of the overnight vandalistic behaviour we presently encounter.

In an ideal world railings could be deemed an unnecessary expense, but ideal we are not and being a resident close to the park have first hand of the antisocial behaviour happening under the cover of darkness, be it vandalistic or assaults.

The vandalism costs money and the victims of assaults more often caused by poor judgement namely walking through the park in the dark.

The area is not a hot spot of crime and I am sure the staff and residents will not allow this to happen.

I look forward to the railings and gates and the introduction of seasonal open and close procedure.
